Edinburgh hopes for more visitors this winter
11 December 2007

Scotland's tourism agency has launched a project to attract more visitors to Edinburgh over the traditionally quiet winter period.

VisitScotland said that it is giving Edinburgh a 'winter makeover' that will show tourists the range of things to see and do in the capital.

Among the attractions being promoted is Edinburgh's Winter Wonderland area, the number of shops and boutiques in the city and the opportunity to join in with this year's Hogmanay celebrations.

The new year will bring with it a 'Dine Around' promotion that will see a number of restaurants and eateries around the city offering set-price menu deals from 7 January to 29 February.

Ben Carter, VisitScotland's area director for Edinburgh, said the capital is a 'magical place' during the winter season.

He added: 'Whether [visitors] are interested in our magical and vibrant Christmas and Hogmanay celebrations, our world class museums, galleries and attractions or our great restaurants, bars and shops, Edinburgh has something for everyone in winter.'
