Birmingham airport has revealed that it handled 610,216 passengers in November, which represents an increase of 2.2% on the same month in 2006.
Services to the Channel Islands saw a pronounced traffic increase of 31% in passenger numbers, while long-haul services to Asia saw growth of nearly 12%.
Birmingham also handled more passengers on its services within the EU (6.6%) and its non-European flights (2.2%), while the Republic of Ireland saw an 11.3% rise in passengers from the Midlands hub.
The introduction of new scheduled flights led to a 1721% increase in traffic to Bratislava, Slovakia, while Barcelona saw passenger numbers increase by 153%.
In the chartered flights sector, the largest growth in traffic from Birmingham was recorded in Malta, Mexico and Madeira.
Joe Kelly, acting managing director of the hub, said November was 'another busy month' at Birmingham as customers took advantage of new routes to destinations such as Shannon and Bratislava.
He added: 'We are now entering the winter season and are expecting a busy Christmas and new year period.'
