The accessibility of Paris as a result of a fast Eurostar connection could make the French capital a viable commuter location for people living around London, it has been claimed.

Eurostar moved its services from Waterloo station to St Pancras International on 14 November.

This allowed it to route its trains using the High Speed 1 rail link, cutting the journey time between London and the Channel Tunnel by 20 minutes.

Liam Bailey of property consultancy Knight Frank said that developments such as this will make France seem more easily accessible for travellers.

'Paris will become much 'closer' in most people's reckoning and becomes a potential commuter location for London,' he said.

Mr Bailey also pointed out the effect that the link could have on people's decisions to permanently relocate abroad, saying: 'Northern and mid-France are becoming much more acceptable for more buyers.'

Eurostar could also attract more environmentally conscious travellers over the coming years, as it has set a target of reducing its carbon dioxide emissions by 25% per traveller journey by 2012.
