Shoppers prepare to splash cash in Dubai
14 December 2007

The United Arab Emirates will become home to crowds of carefree consumers next year when it hosts the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF).

Between 24 January and 24 February millions of visitors will flock to this event, which has become one of the most important inclusions in Dubai's entertainment calendar.

Indeed, the festival is held in such regard that it is described as the emirate's 'fifth season', which offers a new level of fun and enjoyment to visitors while the rest of the world continues with its regular four-season year.

The DSF has been a tradition in Dubai since 1996, when it attracted 1.6m visitors who spent 2.15bn dirhams (£289m).

Such has been the popularity of the event over recent years that the 2006-07 festival attracted 3.5m visitors who splashed out 10.2bn dirhams (£1.37bn).

Visitors were also treated to a number of competitions and freebies at the latest outing of the DSF, with 96 Lexus cars, 45 Nissans, 45kg of gold and a number of cash prizes all being given away.
