Cuba celebrates 2m visitors

A ceremony has been held in Cuba to mark the arrival of two million visitors to the country in 2007.

The celebration took place on 15 December in Jardines del Rey in central Ciego de Avila province, which is one of the island's main tourist resorts, according to the Cuban News Agency.

It was announced at the event that the Cuban International Tourism Fair will be held between 5 and 9 May next year and will feature Italy as the guest country.

The focus of the occasion will be the integration of the tourism industry with local culture.

Jardines del Rey matches Varadero and Havana City as a tourist hotspot and is best known for the quality of its 16 beaches and hotels.

Among other features, it is made up of 465km of coastline and a sea platform of more than 8,000 sq km.
