Cyprus airports on track for 7m visitors
18 December 2007
Airports at Larnaca and Paphos, two of Cyprus' major tourist locations, are on track to have handled close to 7m annual passengers by the end of 2007, according to new figures.
Statistics released by Hermes Airports show that more than 6.6m people travelled through Larnaca and Paphos between January and November 2007.
If the hubs get close to the 7m mark by the end of the year, as expected, it will represent record annual performance for the Cyprus aviation industry.
The previous record was reached in 2005, when more than 6.78m fliers passed through Larnaca and Paphos.
November itself brought growth for the two hubs owned by Hermes, with nearly 365,000 handled across both airports, which represents a 4.3% year-on-year increase.
Jenni Fernando, marketing manager for the operator, said: 'We are very pleased to see this strong traffic performance for November, and look forward to hitting a new record for 2007 passenger figures.'
Larnaca and Paphos are both located on the southern coast of Cyprus and are two of the most important parts of the island's tourism industry.
