Peak travellers urged to book early
28 December 2007
One leading long-haul travel specialist has renewed calls for British families to book their summer holidays early to avoid disappointment.
Travel Nation said that while the industry continues to offer impressive last minute deals, people looking to secure flights and accommodation during the peak school holiday season should invariably prepare early.
Manager Matt Hodgson noted in particular the growing demand among many British families to go on adventure holidays, often entailing round-the-world trips or high-octane activities such as going on safaris.
He acknowledged such trips were 'relatively expensive' but insisted they offer an unrivalled experience for the entire family and as such were in his opinion good value for money.
Giving advice on when to book early, Mr Hodgson explained: 'There are certain groups of people who can only travel at those times of year: teachers, students and so on Those are the times when adventure trips get booked up a long time in advance.'
The Office for National Statistics reported that in the financial year 2005-06 UK families spent an average of £650 on family package holidays abroad.
