Holiday bookings expected to soar
31 December 2007
Almost 12m Brits are expected to book a holiday between Christmas and the end of February 2008, new research has suggested.
Sainsbury's Finance is predicting that among those going abroad people are expecting to spend an average of £655 each and almost one in four will have purchased their holiday in the first week after Christmas.
The financial services provider said that Brits were taking more holidays than ever before but it cautioned that in some cases people are forgetting to shop around for the best deals on travel insurance.
Steve Johnson, head of Sainsbury's Travel Insurance, cited research that showed as many as 28% of people booking holidays were expecting to buy insurance through their travel agent without consulting third party advisors.
Commenting on the reluctance among holidaymakers to compare insurance prices, Mr Johnson said: 'It may seem a little mundane, but it's worth remembering that shopping around for insurance is just as important as you could save yourself a considerable amount of money.'
A recent report from the Office for National Statistics found that Brits make about 66m holidays abroad each year.
