Manchester to lift one-bag rule
02 January 2008
Travellers flying from Manchester airport will soon be able to carry more than one piece of luggage on board their flight.
The airport announced that, from 7 January, it will lift the one-bag restriction that has been in force since August 2006.
It will be one of the first in the UK to take advantage of the government's permission to remove the rule.
The airport said that the move has been made possible by 'extensive investment' in new security screening machines, staff training and additional security personnel.
Travellers are advised that the rule prohibiting liquids of more than 100ml in hand or cabin baggage will still be in force. People flying to UK hubs where the one-bag rule is still in force, such as Gatwick and Edinburgh, will still be subject to the restriction on their return journey.
In another recent development at Manchester airport, train operator First TransPennine Express has started offering direct rail services to the hub from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Carlisle.
