Dubai Museum lures tourists
08 January 2008

The Dubai Museum proved a popular attraction with visitors last year as people showed an interest in the rapid transformation that the emirate has undergone recently, according to the department of tourism and commerce marketing (DTCM).

It is estimated that more than 3,000 visitors of various nationalities visited the facility on the final day of 2007.

Interest in the museum is expected to continue to rise in 2008 alongside the anticipated increase in overall tourism figures, said Awadh Seghayer Al Ketbi, executive director of the DTCM heritage and convention division.

The exhibits in the museum explore the rich heritage and cultural history of the United Arab Emirates city of Dubai.

Displays take the form of hologram-like movies, information cases and hands-on exhibits.

Visitors are taken on a historical tour of Dubai, from the third millennium BC right up to the present day.

The museum is housed in the Al Fahidi Fort, which was originally built in 1787 to defend the city against invasion and was opened as a tourist attraction in 1971.
