Bag rule change 'meets passenger needs'
08 January 2008

Airports operator BAA has welcomed the gradual removal of the one-bag limit across the UK, claiming that it meets the needs of passengers.

Some 22 airports across the UK have implemented plans to ease restrictions on cabin baggage following approval from the government last year.

Speaking on BBC One's lunchtime news programme, Tom Kelly of BAA said that there had been significant demand from passengers that the one-bag limit be lifted.

Mr Kelly claimed that the prioritisation of customer needs is the airport operator's 'number one rule'.

'Putting the passengers first means giving them the choice that will suit their needs,' he added.

'For some people it is important in terms of time that they are able to take two bags onto the plane.'

British Airways yesterday welcomed the removal of the one-bag restriction at Heathrow and said that it was working with BAA and the government to facilitate similar action at Gatwick.
