Singapore takes delivery of second A380
14 January 2008
Singapore Airlines took delivery of its second Airbus A380 in France on 11 January.
The carrier received the plane, which is the world's largest passenger aircraft, at the Airbus delivery centre in Toulouse before flying it to Singapore overnight.
Like Singapore Airlines' first A380, which is currently operating the carrier's route between Singapore and Sydney, the new plane is capable of carrying 471 passengers in a three-class layout.
To begin with, the second plane will be used on a rotational basis on the Singapore-Sydney route.
In late February, Singapore Airlines will receive a third A380, which will enable the launch of a daily service to London Heathrow.
The Asian carrier has placed firm orders for a further 17 units of the Airbus jet.
Singapore Airlines is currently the only carrier using the A380, but Qantas and Emirates are set to begin operations with the aircraft later this year.
