Avoid haggis, US visitors to Scotland warned
18 January 2008
American visitors to Scotland have been warned of the manifold dangers that the British country presents, with its national dish of haggis at the top of the list.
The advice was issued on website virtualtourist.com and compiled from the views of 2,000 Americans who have visited the UK.
While there were cautions relating to the risks posed by drunk football fans and driving on foreign roads, one of the starkest warnings related to Scotland's favourite foodstuff, the Daily Record reports.
'Haggis. Ugh. Ugh. I am an adventurous eater. I will eat whatever, at least once. But this was nasty,' one person wrote.
'It is the sheep's stomach stuffed with its intestines. Eww. It is really bland, too.'
A number of aspects of British life appear to cause confusion for foreigners, according to the list of visitors' views, including separate hot and cold taps and the long-standing tradition of queuing.
One person warned that 'there's always trouble' if foreign visitors do not wait their turn.
Opodo cheap flights and hotels - let the journey begin!
