Cape Verde 'going green'
04 February 2008
The Cape Verde archipelago off the western coast of Africa is boosting its green credentials with a new resort on the island of Sal.
According to overseas property group GEM Estates, the Cotton Bay marina and golf resort is an 'eco-compatible' project that will set out to maintain environmental responsibility while delivering five-star luxury.
Jose Maria Neves, prime minister of Cape Verde, recently set out the country's intentions when he said: 'Modernisation will not be to our detriment.
'We are working hard to ensure that we retain the unspoiled beauty of our islands by allowing only sustainable development.'
Among the features of the Cotton Bay resort is a botanical garden and an on-site nursery to support indigenous plant species.
There are also sports and leisure facilities including two football pitches, eight tennis courts, a water park and a marina capable of accommodating up to 300 vessels.
