Cyprus 'a popular location for retirees'
06 February 2008
The welcoming and relaxed nature of Cyprus makes it a popular destination for retirement as well as tourism, a property expert has claimed.
James Dearsley, European sales manager for real estate company Atlas International, said that one of the most attractive attributes of the island is the ease with which foreigners can gain residency.
He also claimed that it offers a blend of atmospheres and cultures, with the more peaceful western side of the island likely to appeal to older travellers and retirees.
'If you are looking for something a little bit more laid back and labelled as the place people move to for their retirement then the west of the island is more notable,' Mr Dearsley said.
'Paphos is most notable for its great range of offerings. It has fabulous beaches, great restaurants and a range of scenery, suitable for fantastic adventures.'
On January 1st this year, Cyprus, along with Malta, became the newest member of the eurozone, meaning that foreign visitors will now change their currency to the euro rather than the Cypriot pound.
This development is expected to deliver a boost to the Cyprus economy owing to the low interest rates, low inflation and large market access available in the eurozone.
