Austrian expands in Romania
06 February 2008
Austrian Airlines has announced that it has expanded its network in Romania, with a new service to Baia Mare set to launch in April.
The city will be served three times a week from 21 April and join the other Romanian destinations of Bucharest, Timisoara, Cluj, Iasi and Sibiu in the airline's network.
Austrian's new services will boost its eastern European portfolio to include 48 destinations in 24 countries.
Passengers travelling from London Heathrow will be able access connections to the new service via Austrian Airlines' hub in Vienna.
Alfred Otsch, chief executive officer of the airline, said: 'Austria continues to be the largest direct investor in Romania and our connecting flights have been designed to support the successes and expansion plans of the domestic and international economy.
'With six destinations in Romania, we have once again confirmed our leading role as a specialist and pioneer in the east.'
Baia Mare lies close to the Carpathian mountains and is the capital of the Maramures region.
