Stansted visitor centre gets go-ahead
07 February 2008
Stansted airport has announced that it has been given the go-ahead to build a new visitors centre on site.
Uttlesford District Council gave the green light to a new facility that will be able to handle up to 40 visitors at a time.
The centre will feature a lecture theatre where people will be able to learn about the activities and processes that make an airport work.
Valda Edmunds, community manager for airport operator BAA, thanked the council for giving permission to the project and described the development as 'fantastic news'.
She added: 'Stansted airport is an integral part of the community and the centre will be an important place for local people and aviation enthusiasts to meet.
'Not only will it offer stunning views across the airfield but it will act as an education resource for displays and activities for visiting school trips and community groups.'
Stansted is the third busiest airport in the UK and its most popular destinations are Dublin, Rome Ciampino and Milan Bergamo.
It hosts services provided by airlines including Air Malta, Cyprus Airways and American Airlines.
