Fog closes City Airport
11 February 2008
London City Airport has suspended flights due to fog in the area.
A spokeswoman for the hub told the Times that as the airport has a short runway, the margin for error is 'limited' due to the steep takeoffs and landings that are required there.
The paper reports that the decision to restrict flights was taken at 06:30 GMT and the airport's website was still warning passengers of the disruption at midday.
City Airport announced earlier this month that it would be catering for two additional business flights to New York as BA is to launch new services to the US city.
Commenting on the development, City Airport chief executive Richard Gooding OBE, said: 'This is a fantastic development for the airport and we welcome British Airways' continued commitment to their growth at London City Airport.'
He also said the news comes at an 'important time' for the hub as it continues its development.
