F1 cars on sale at Zurich airport
12 February 2008

Travellers passing through Zurich airport this month will be able to add some unusual items to their duty-free shopping basket as the hub hosts an auction featuring Formula One racing cars.

A collection owned by Peter Sauber, whose racing team was taken over by BMW in 2005, will be sold at the Swiss airport over a six-week period from 19 February, Reuters reports.

The range of Sauber cars will include a vehicle once used by Jean Alesi of France between 1998 and 1999.

A machine driven by reigning world champion Kimi Raikkonen when he started his career with Sauber in 2001 will also be included in the auction.

Patrick Graf, head of marketing retail for Zurich airport's operating company, confirmed that this will be the first time that Formula One racing cars will go up for sale at the hub.

Zurich airport handles the movements of about 700 aircraft every day, which transport more than 50,000 passengers.
