Liverpool travellers greeted by Taxi Project
20 February 2008

People travelling from Liverpool John Lennon airport will soon be greeted by a work of art associated with the Turner Prize 2007 exhibition.

The Taxi Project was not created by any of the Turner Prize nominees but was displayed alongside the exhibition at the Tate Liverpool last year and became a popular piece.

It takes the form of a working black cab that features a large display screen with surround sound in the passenger section.

The film shown on the screen features people on the streets of Liverpool discussing the city's hosting of the 2007 Turner Prize and its role as the European Capital of Culture in 2008.

Neil Pakey, managing director of JLA, said: 'Putting the taxi on display alongside the yellow submarine and our major exhibits by Harry Goodwin, Paul Saltzman, Tom Murphy, John McFaul and Portuguese artist Rigo helps to cement our commitment to the Capital of Culture year and to public arts in general.

'We do hope passengers take the opportunity to arrive at the airport early to enjoy the exhibits on display.'

Flights are available from Liverpool airport to European destinations including Barcelona, Venice, Rome and Budapest.
