TV show set could become Botswana tourist site
21 February 2008
The set of a BBC television show filmed in Botswana could be used as a tourist attraction, according to reports.
Botswana's Tourism Board has been in negotiations with the producers of The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency regarding the possibility of organising visits to the programme's set.
Keitumetse Setlang, the board's public relations manager, said that the producers had agreed in principle to the set being used for tourism, the Botswana Press Agency reports.
Ms Setlang also expressed confidence that further negotiations would be successful and said that the shooting location would prove a popular attraction for visitors.
The main set for the shooting of The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency, the first series of which was completed last year, is located at the foot of the Kgale Hill in Botswana.
Alexander McCall Smith's bestselling book series provided the subject matter for the show, which features Precious Ramotswe, a female private detective working in Botswana, as its protagonist.
The programme will be screened on the BBC in March.
