Lufthansa celebrates record-breaking year
26 February 2008

German airline Lufthansa has celebrated another record-breaking year in its network of flights to the UK and Ireland.

The carrier announced that it carried more than 3.66m passengers to and from the UK and Ireland in 2007, which is an increase of almost 60,000 (1.6%) on the figures for 2006.

On its flights to and from Ireland alone, Lufthansa achieved a 15% year-on-year increase in passenger numbers last year.

Marianne Sammann, Lufthansa's general manager for the UK and Ireland, said: 'Our passenger growth out of the UK and Ireland has been exceptional for the past two years. It proves that huge numbers of travellers still want the added value they receive from a full service airline.

'They like to know the ticket cost includes good quality food and drink on board the aircraft as well as allowing them to check-in at the airport and take a reasonable amount of luggage at no extra cost.'

Ms Sammann also referred to the airline's forthcoming flights from Bristol to Frankfurt, as well as new services from Birmingham and Dublin, stating that they show the importance of the UK and Ireland in Lufthansa's network.

The German airline carried a total of 62.9m passengers in 2007, including 6.5m who travelled with Swiss Air Lines.
