Glasgow prepares to host GI Festival
29 February 2008
Glasgow will soon be preparing itself for an influx of visitors to the GI Festival.
This event will serve as a wide-ranging celebration of contemporary art, with events, exhibitions and shows taking place across the city between 11 and 27 April.
The festival sets out to recognise the full variety of modern visual art, from newly-commissioned pieces by established artists to fresh and exciting work by new figures on the scene.
One of the most striking pieces will be High Wire, a film and video installation by Catherine Yass, which shows tightrope walker Didier Pasquette crossing a gap between blocks of flats on Glasgow's Red Road via a thin metal wire.
There will also be an exhibition of new work by Jim Lambie, the internationally-renowned artist, at the Gallery of Modern Art, which will be accompanied by a series of new sculptural works.
People visiting Glasgow in March will be able to enjoy a number of shows as part of the Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival.
This event will run from 6 to 23 March and feature performances by Jimmy Carr, French and Saunders, Frankie Boyle, Sean Lock and many more.
