Tourists set to return to Kenya
05 March 2008

Tourists are expected to start returning to Kenya after a number of travel firms have cut prices to entice foreign visitors back.

Recent political turmoil in the area has seen a decline in the number of travellers heading to the east African nation but tourism figures are now expected to improve.

According to the Times newspaper, safari holidays are being offered at cut prices – some by up to 50%, while the cost of beach holidays have also been slashed.

Speaking to the newspaper's website, chief executive of the African Travel and Tourism Association, Nigel Vere Nicoll said: 'There are going to be a lot of offers around Kenya over the next four months in order to kick start the huge recovery plan.

'We are running into the low season so people can expect to see added extras such as free balloon trips to attract the market back.'

Thousands of Britons flocked to Kenya before the troubles began to enjoy sun soaked days and the country's rare wildlife. Tourism is the country's biggest earner of foreign currency.
