Qantas prepares to launch premium economy
06 March 2008
Qantas, the national airline of Australia, has unveiled its first aircraft fitted with the new premium economy cabin.
The cabin features 32 seats and will initially be available on services from Sydney to London Heathrow and Johannesburg.
Qantas' first service offering premium economy seats will depart from Sydney to Hong Kong on 7 March.
Passengers using the service will be able to enjoy a nine-inch seat recline, ergonomic cushions, an in-arm touch-screen video monitor and a tailored menu with premium wines.
John Borghetti, executive general manager of Qantas, said that premium economy offers 'extra space and comfort and enhanced levels of service'.
He added: 'We have invested significantly in developing this cabin, which is being progressively installed across our B747-400 fleet and will be available on every Qantas A380.'
Mr Borghetti also said that forward bookings for the new offering indicate 'very promising levels of demand'.
