Destinations within the UK are still popular for Brits on stag and hen parties, despite the rising number of trips taken abroad, according to a wedding expert.

Francesca Moore, a spokesperson for free wedding support service hitched.co.uk, said that in the past it was mostly stag nights that were the more ambitious and taken abroad.

Now, however, foreign parties have become much more accessible, with some companies offering tailored packages for future brides and grooms and their friends.

Commenting on preferences for particular locations, Ms Moore said: 'A few pints of Guinness in Dublin or the night life of Amsterdam are popular destinations for the stags.

'The ladies' choice might be a Spanish sangria, or trip up north to Edinburgh.'

And pre-wedding parties do not have to be restricted to Europe, the wedding adviser said, with many people beginning to look further afield, sometimes to destinations across the Atlantic.

'Las Vegas is a great trip which can be done on a weekend for the boys, and maybe a shopping spree just before the big day in New York is great for the ladies,' she said.
