Tokyo to receive A380
12 March 2008
Singapore Airlines has announced that Tokyo is to become the fourth city served by the Airbus A380.
The operator will begin services from Singapore Changi airport to Tokyo Narita from 20 May.
Sydney was the first city in the world to receive commercial flights using the A380 superjumbo, when Singapore Airlines began flying there in October 2007, and London Heathrow will see flights from 18 March.
Huang Cheng Eng, the carrier's executive vice-president of marketing, said: 'We are proud to operate the inaugural A380 flight into Japan, the A380's first Asian destination.
'The fact that Tokyo is the A380's first Asian city highlights Singapore Airlines' 40 years of dedicated service to the Japanese market.'
Singapore Airlines already offers 20 weekly flights to Tokyo, as well as 17 services a week to Osaka, a daily link to Nagoya and five connections a week to Fukuoka.
