Southampton expecting busy Easter
19 March 2008

BAA Southampton airport is expecting one of its busiest ever Easter periods this year.

The south coast base said that more than 31,000 holidaymakers are expected to pass through over the coming weekend.

Many visitors will be looking for some sunshine and heading to hotspots such as the Algarve, Malaga, Alicante, Avignon and Limoges.

Southampton will also provide services for people on city breaks and visiting family members around the UK, with flights going to destinations including Dublin, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester and the Channel Islands.

The airport hosts services from a number of regional and international carriers, including Flybe, Eastern Airways and Air France.

People considering travelling to and from the UK for the Easter weekend should be aware of a severe weather warning issued by the Met Office.

Heavy snow has been forecast in eastern Scotland and north-eastern England for 21 March and in eastern Scotland, eastern England and some areas in the Midlands for 22 March.
