Deal signed for new project in Indonesia
19 March 2008
A deal has been struck for the development of a new 'mega-tourism' project in Indonesia.
Property developer Emaar and the Bali Tourism Development Corporation (BTDC) reached the agreement to build a major new residential and resort community.
The Lombok project will cover 1,175 hectares and come at a cost of 2.2bn dirhams (£301.9m), Trade Arabia reports.
Set on the beaches of Kuta and Tanjung, the initiative is expected to have an eco-friendly outlook and integrate a number of leisure and hospitality areas.
I Made Mandra, director of the BTDC, said: 'Indonesia welcomes investments that add to the socio-economic prosperity of our people and Emaar with its proven competencies as a world-class developer, can contribute to the country's economic growth.
'The Lombok project will particularly focus on tourism to complement the growing appeal of the destination.'
Emaar, which is based in the United Arab Emirates, is one of the first developers from the Middle East to expand into Indonesia.
