Investment boost for Ontario events
19 March 2008

Visitors to Ontario, Canada will be able to attend a new and extended range of events in the near future following the announcement of new funding for the province.

The region's tourism ministry announced a round of investment with a total value of $683,000 (£341,660), according to the Canadian Press.

Three events in the Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound region will share $100,000 of funding – the Electric Eclectics festival, the Festival of Northern Lights and the International Plowing Match.

Two festivals in the Timmins-James Bay area will share $96,000, while the same amount will go to two summer festivals in Parry Sound-Muskoka.

Among the more unusual events to benefit from increased funding will be the Elvis Festival in Collingwood, which has been allocated an extra $75,000, and the national midget hockey championship, which will be given an additional $4,000.

The province of Ontario is located in the central region of Canada, with borders on the provinces of Manitoba and Quebec, as well as the American states of Michigan, New York and Minnesota.
