New York warms up for wine month
25 March 2008

Visitors to New York will be plied with plenty of wine in April as the state dedicates an entire month to the popular beverage.

More than 160 restaurants and 200 stores throughout New York will be involved in the month-long event, which will see visitors being offered drinks from around 90 wineries.

Jim Trezise, president of the New York Wine and Grape Foundation, said that April is 'the perfect month' for celebrating one of the world's most popular tipples.

'The 2007 vintage was the best in at least 15 years, and many of the wines will be unveiled for the public in April,' Mr Trezise explained.

He added: 'It's the onset of the wine country tourist season when consumers start planning their trips to New York's great wine regions.'

The state of New York is home to a number of wine-growing regions, including the Finger Lakes and Long Island.

Long Island wine country is 70 miles east of New York City and can be reached via a short ferry ride from New England.
