Iberia, AA extend codesharing agreement
25 March 2008
Spanish carrier Iberia and American Airlines (AA) are to widen the scope of their codesharing agreement, it has been announced.
People flying to the US with Iberia will now be able to choose from an additional 16 destinations across the country.
The Spanish carrier already offers direct connections to five destinations in North America Chicago, New York, Boston, Washington DC and Miami.
Passengers coming in the other direction across the Atlantic will be able to connect to 12 new destinations in Spain, including Bilbao, Alicante, Valencia, Seville and Gran Canaria.
The extended agreement will also see new links to four other major cities Paris, Lisbon, Brussels and Frankfurt.
In 2007, Iberia carried some 845,179 passengers between Europe and the United States, 21% more than in the previous year.
This network was boosted by the launch of new direct flights from Madrid to Washington DC and Boston, as well as average seat occupancy rates of 84.8%.
