Danish designer's home opens to visitors
25 March 2008

The former home of Danish designer Finn Juhl will open its doors to the public for the first time this month.

Juhl lived from 1912 until 1989 and was one of the most important figures in the beginning of the 'Danish modern' movement.

He was well known for working in the teak style and made furniture that combined detail, style and comfort.

In 1942 he created his own home in Ordrup, north of Copenhagen, which is furnished with his own designs and will soon become a point of interest to many visitors to Denmark.

Juhl's former home is located next to the Ordrupgaard Art Museum, which houses works by Danish artist Vilhelm Hammershoi as well as other masters including Auguste Renoir and Edgar Degas.

Another recent milestone in Denmark's cultural calendar was the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Louisiana Museum.

The museum, which is located 35 kilometres north of Copenhagen, boasts a collection of work by artists including Francis Bacon, Max Ernst, Anselm Kiefer, Henry Moore and Pablo Picasso.
