Brazil already looking forward to 2014 World Cup
27 March 2008
The Brazilian Tourist Board has announced that it is already preparing for the 2014 World Cup, which will be held in the South American country.
According to the tourist board, Brazil's game against Sweden at the Emirates stadium in London on 26 March gave football fans a preview of the entertainment they can expect in six years' time.
One of the world's most famous football stadiums, the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro, is being fully refurbished for the event.
While this development takes place, the stadium's football museum will remain open, showing off exhibits such as the ball and net from Pele's 1,000th goal and boots once worn by Brazilian star Garrincha.
Another location in Brazil that will be getting into the footballing spirit will be Natal, where David Beckham is building his World of Sport academy, as well as a luxury hotel resort.
One of the country's host cities for 2014 will be Belo Horizonte, which reportedly boasts more than 12,000 bars, more per capita than anywhere else in the country.
A total of 18 different locations are set to host matches for the 2014 World Cup, even taking fans into the heart of the Amazon rainforest, to the cities of Manaus and Rio Branco.
