More flights delayed at T5
31 March 2008

The trouble continues at Terminal 5 (T5) as staff try to work their way through a 15,000 unit luggage backlog amid further flight cancellations.

British Airways (BA) cancelled another 54 flights - 14 per cent of those scheduled - on the fifth day of passenger disruption that could cost the airline a reported £50 million.

However, chief executive officer at BA Willie Walsh offered passengers some hope, stating: 'The baggage system is now generally working well.

'From time to time problems have developed that were not encountered during the extensive trials - these issues are being addressed as they arise.'

Short haul destinations have been the worst affected by the drama at T5, with a total of 340 flights cancelled since the terminal's March 27th opening.

The troubles at T5 are not just limited to the lack of aeroplanes either, with Gordon Ramsay's restaurant at the terminal being branded 'too expensive' and one woman accidentally being charged £90,000 for four cappuccinos at the Giraffe Juice Bar.
