AUA to offer more flights with Turkish Airlines
02 April 2008

Austrian Airlines (AUA) has announced that it is to offer more flights with Turkish Airlines, after the latter became a member of the Star Alliance.

Turkish Airlines was welcomed as the group's 20th member at a ceremony held in Istanbul on 1 April.

A partnership struck between the new Star Alliance carrier and AUA will see both airlines expand their flight capacity on routes to Istanbul and Ankara from Vienna.

AUA's capacity between the Austrian capital and Istanbul will increase from two to four connections a day.

The national carrier of Austria recently celebrated a significant milestone - on 31 March it marked 50 years since it was first founded.

In 1958 the airline carried 25,567 passengers, which increased to 10.8m passengers in 2007.

Chief executive officer Alfred Otsch said: 'Fifty years of Austrian Airlines means 50 years of successful Austrian civil aviation.

'Since making our first flight to London on 31 March 1958, we have brought together many millions of people from every country in the world, and we are a natural ambassador and powerful advertisement for Austria itself.'
