Passenger numbers continue to climb at Munich
09 April 2008

Munich has continued to prove a popular destination for travellers this year, with a year-on-year increase in passengers at the city's airport in the first quarter.

Some 7.7m people passed through Munich airport in the first three months of the year, 6.5% more than in the same period of 2007, Travel Daily News reports.

This period also saw the hub achieve a record for aircraft movements, with more than 100,000 take-offs and landings handled for the first time.

International flights were among the main drivers of growth at Munich, with both European and long-haul networks experiencing increases of more than 9% in passenger numbers.

American destinations were particularly popular with travellers from Munich, with a 14% increase in activity compared to last year.

Munich is one of the many locations in Germany that are popular with city break travellers, with many people going to see the city's distinctive architecture or visit the Oktoberfest beer festival.
