Orlando airport 'cracking down on queue times'
17 April 2008
Orlando international airport is pursuing projects to reduce the amount of time that travellers spend waiting in queues, according to reports.
Passenger traffic has been on the increase in Orlando recently and Lee Kair, the Transportation Security Administration's federal security director for the airport, recently said that it exceeds its capacity 'on a regular basis'.
Officials are now responding to these congestion problems by increasing the number of security lanes from 15 to 18 in the airport's west hall, the Orlando Sentinel reports.
This is one of the airport's busiest zones and regularly hosts passengers from American Airlines, US Airways and Continental Airlines flights.
The east hall could also see its number of security lanes increase from15 to between 19 and 24.
Orlando international is the busiest passenger airport in Florida and handled more than 3m passengers in February, nearly 11% more than last year.
The coming summer is set to be one of the busiest ever for the sunshine state, with the new Aquatica park in Orlando and the Jungala wildlife-themed area at Busch Gardens Africa in Tampa set to attract the interest of many visitors.
