Venice gets ready to rock
21 April 2008

Venice is best known for its associations with romance and relaxation, but many of its visitors will be taking a different approach to enjoying their holiday in June as the Italian city hosts the Heineken Jammin' Festival.

Taking place in Parco San Giuliano from 20 to 22 June this year, this event is Italy's premier rock festival and in the past has hosted the likes of Bon Jovi, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Cure.

This year, the artists responsible for getting the crowds warmed up on the first day will include Chris Cornell, the Sex Pistols and Linkin Park.

The all important closing slot on the final day of the festival will be filled by The Police, with Alanis Morissette and Counting Crows among the day's other performers.

Visitors to Venice in June may also be interested in attending a contemporary dance festival that will be held at various venues throughout the city between 14 and 29 June.

This celebration of dance is part of the Venice Biennale, a collection of events, festivals, exhibitions, concerts and screenings that is more than 100 years old and is seen as one of the world's leading cultural institutions.
