Brits 'want public holidays spread across year'
25 April 2008

The majority of British travellers would rather public holidays were spread out across the year rather than grouped close together, according to research.

There will once again be two bank holidays in the month of May this year and 75% of respondents to a poll by TripAdvisor said they would prefer these occasions to be more widely separated.

Nevertheless, many people plan to take advantage of their days off in May, with 46% of the travellers polled saying they are planning a trip away during one of the holidays.

A quarter said they will take a long weekend break, while 18% intend to go away for a week or more and 10% are planning a day trip.

Slightly more people plan to go abroad for their spring holiday than stay in the UK, according to the survey, with France and Spain the most popular foreign destinations.

When asked what they liked about a spring break, 45% of people said it provided a relief from the winter and 18% said they enjoyed the fact that the period is quieter than summer.
