Tourism sites to expect price reductions
30 April 2008
Budding sightseers can look forward to major tourism sites in China implementing price reductions, it was announced recently.
A government initiative could see sites which are seen to have high admission costs having their prices slashed.
The year-long campaign is a joint effort from eight government departments after it was agreed in April that the initiative was necessary.
China Daily was told by the National Administration of Tourism that the campaign would aim to promote tourism, as competition within the tourist site industry has begun to hot up.
In China it is thought that some admission prices are too high and that groups such as students, children and the disabled should be allowed to enter at a reduced rate.
Administration spokeswoman Li Nan agreed that the cost of entering some tourist sites was excessive and that the move to kick-start this initiative was partly to do with the upcoming May Day break, when these sites are widely visited.
The Huangshan Mountain resort is home to 77 peaks which are in excess of 1,000 metres in altitude.
