Copenhagen warms up for summer
06 May 2008

The tourism agency of Denmark has announced details of the season of entertainment to be provided in the country's capital, Copenhagen, this year.

Ballet performances, theatre shows, music concerts and operas will be held at various venues in the city, including the waterfront opera house opened in January 2005.

The Royal Danish Orchestra, which is based at the opera house, has a history stretching back to 1448 and this year will provide the accompaniment to shows including Tosca and La Nozze di Figaro.

Those who prefer music with a more modern edge can visit Copenhagen between 4 and 13 July for the annual Jazz Festival.

Various forms of jazz are encompassed in this event, which includes nearly 100 concerts every day and takes place in numerous venues around the city.

Performers this year will include Cassandra Wilson, one of the most successful vocalists on the modern jazz scene, and saxophonist Ravi Coltrane, son of music legend John Coltrane.

Later this year, between 5 and 21 September, Copenhagen will host the Golden Days festival, which offers a perspective on the character, appearance and style of the Danish capital in the 1920s and 30s.
