Dubai set for host of new developments
09 June 2008

The tourism industry of Dubai is set to be boosted by 55 new hospitality developments before 2011.

According to a report by Ramqiyat, a leading provider of IT solutions and technology in the United Arab Emirates, the new establishments will have a collective value of $277bn (£140.3bn).

The research predicted that these developments would further strengthen Dubai's reputation as one of the world's leading tourist destinations.

Sandeep Saxena, assistant vice-president of business development for Raqmiyat, said: 'Tourism has become one of the most dominant industries in Dubai, and continues to be an increasingly important sector that drives the emirate's GDP.

'As the tourism sector maintains its unprecedented growth trend, the emirate's rapidly expanding number of hotels and leisure facilities are taking pioneering steps to provide the most lavish amenities to customers.'

Hotels and apartments in Dubai are thought to contribute some 13.26bn dirhams (£1.82bn) to the local economy every year.
