London Gatwick has shorter security queues than any other major airport in Europe, according to new research.

The latest quarterly survey from the Airports Council International sought passenger opinions on a range of service factors at Europe's ten busiest airports.

Gatwick's security checkpoint waiting times were found to be shorter than those at major hubs such as Paris Charles de Gaulle, Frankfurt, London Heathrow and Amsterdam Schiphol.

This achievement is the result of the 'dedication and commitment' of staff at the airport, said managing director Andy Flower.

'This time last year Gatwick came seventh out of ten for security queue times, so to be voted top today is a real achievement,' he added.

'Many thanks and congratulations to everyone for making this result possible, and for helping to keep passengers safe and secure.'

Gatwick handles around 35m passengers every year. Its capacity has recently been improved by the addition of 650 security staff and seven new security lanes.
