Singapore and Saudi Arabian to boost cooperation
26 June 2008
Singapore Airlines and Saudi Arabian Airlines have reached an agreement to increase cooperation on routes between their respective home countries.
The memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by the two carriers is set to create a closer relationship between the companies and focus on the development of new routes between Asia and the Middle East.
One of the aims of the cooperation will be schedule coordination, which will make it easier for people travelling through the respective regions to access connections between the airlines' flights.
A more long-term goal is to support the countries' civil aviation authorities with the aim of eventually liberalising airspace between Saudi Arabia and Singapore.
Abdul Aziz Al-Hazmi, executive vice-president of marketing for Saudi Arabian Airlines described the agreement as a 'historic event'.
Huang Cheng Eng of Singapore Airlines added: 'Through this MOU, we look forward to building a long-term cooperative relationship with Saudi Arabian Airlines.
'We will harness each carrier's respective network, unique identity and culture. We believe that this will be mutually beneficial for both airlines, and more importantly, our customers.'
