'New and exciting line-up' at Glasgow River Festival
30 June 2008
The Glasgow City Marketing Bureau has urged people to pay a visit to this year's River Festival, describing the line-up of entertainment as 'new and exciting'.
Set to take place over Glasgow's holiday weekend, on 19 and 20 July, the festival is expected to attract more visitors than last year's 85,000.
There will be a number of on-water events, including jet-ski demonstrations by the Jet Sport Racing Association, which will include some impressive routines and daring stunts.
Maritime enthusiasts will be able to set foot aboard some imposing ships, including two Royal Navy minesweepers and Jacinta, a trawler that now serves as a floating museum dedicated to deep-sea fisheries.
On land, Glasgow will hold its first ever beach volleyball tournament at the SECC, while the Crowne Plaza Glasgow will once again host its summer barbecue on the banks of the Clyde.
Bailie Liz Cameron, vice-chair of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau said: 'The Glasgow River Festival has evolved into a wonderful celebration of the River Clyde, which has been at the heart of the city's industrial success and is now home to some of our most exciting entrepreneurial ventures.
'As part of the city's exciting annual programme of cultural events, the festival highlights a number of exhilarating and entertaining ways to enjoy the river.'
