Munich 'Europe's best airport for punctuality'

New statistics have revealed that Germany's Munich airport is the most efficient hub in Europe at limiting delays on its continental services.
The Association of European Airlines (AEA) released figures showing that 17.6% of intra-European departures from Munich were delayed by more than 15 minutes in the first quarter of 2008.
This ratio represents a year-on-year improvement for the German airport and places it ahead of Vienna, which saw 17.9% of its departures were delayed.
Larnaca airport in Cyprus was the next best performer, followed by Dusseldorf and Istanbul.
London Gatwick was the only UK airport to feature in the top ten, in eighth position, behind Barcelona and Paris Orly and ahead of Milan Malpensa and Lisbon.
Gatwick's performance was not matched by its larger counterpart in London, Heathrow, which was named the worst performer in Europe with 44% of its flights delayed by 15 minutes or more.
A BAA spokesperson said that this was more evidence of the airport's need for a new runway.
