Glasgow counts down to skyhub
16 July 2008
Glasgow airport has announced that the launch of skyhub, its new terminal extension, is less than 100 days away.
The airport began the countdown to the skyhub launch on 14 July and claimed that the development will lead to a better airport experience for passengers.
Spread over two storeys, the extension will include a domestic arrivals hall scheduled to open on 21 October and a new security search area due to launch a few days later.
Passengers are expected to enjoy quicker transit through the security zone thanks to ten new X-ray machines.
Once through security, travellers will be able to visit a new Starbucks cafe, a Hugo Boss store, a Frankie and Benny's restaurant and many other shops and bars.
Airport managing director Gordon Dewar said: 'The opening of skyhub, now just 100 days away, promises a better airport experience for passengers at Glasgow airport, with fast, efficient security screening, more space to relax and a wider choice of bars, restaurants and shops.
'At a cost of £31 million, skyhub is a significant investment by BAA Glasgow in customer service and security, and signals our commitment to put passengers first at Glasgow airport.'
Glasgow airport hosts flights provided by carriers including bmi, Virgin Atlantic and Emirates to destinations such as Copenhagen, Orlando and Dubai.
