Christmas 'a great time to be in London'

A tourism industry spokeswoman has said that Christmas is a 'great time' to be in London, for both residents and visitors.
Hannah Collingbourne, PR manager for VisitLondon, said the English capital boasts numerous attractive features during the winter festive season, from its calendar of events to its aesthetic appeal.
'You've got lots of great events, you've got the Christmas lights, Christmas markets, ice skating rinks that crop up in iconic locations all over the city, places like the Tower Of London, Kew Gardens and Greenwich,' she said.
'For visitors I think it is a big draw, for those around the country and for those overseas to come to London at that time.'
Ms Collingbourne said that the West End is one of London's most popular areas at Christmas, particularly for occasions such as the 'VIP day' when the streets are closed to traffic.
According to VisitLondon statistics, more than 25m people visited the capital in 2007, with the average trip by an overseas tourist lasting 6.2 days.
