Overseas weddings 'rising in popularity'

The trend of getting married abroad has become increasingly popular among British couples in recent times, it has been claimed.
Peter Staddon, a spokesman for the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba), suggested that the rising cost of tying the knot in the UK and the unpredictable weather are leading couples to consider heading abroad for their nuptials.
'Many couples feel they are being taken for a ride in the UK and also that they cannot guarantee good British weather,' he said.
With airlines offering 'great deals for superb locations', Mr Staddon said there has been an 'increase in overseas weddings'.
However, the Biba spokesman stressed that getting married overseas brings with it a number of additional insurance considerations.
Expensive items such as rings, dresses and suits and the fact that wedding guests are likely to be drinking more than usual means that wedding holiday insurance has to be different to ordinary travel cover, Mr Staddon said.
Commenting on popular destinations for an overseas wedding, Mr Staddon said that the Caribbean and the Mediterranean islands are traditionally 'seen as good locations'.
